Audio Schools, Philadelphia History, and the City’s Contributions to the Industry

When it comes to audio schools, Philadelphia has its share of excellent facilities. It’s no wonder since there is a rich history of music and famous musicians based in this venerable old city.

Philadelphia Music History

While many people think of New York, LA or Nashville as being meccas of the music industry, there is also a rich history in the city of Philadelphia. From a history that extends all the way back to colonial times with a focus on classical and Roman Catholic liturgical music, to traditional Irish jigs and Jamaican tunes, Jazz, Bebop, R&B, Hip-Hop and Soul, Philadelphia is a music mecca in its own right.

One of its most prominent citizens, Benjamin Franklin, was a musician and a guitar teacher; one can only wonder what he would think of the modern music production schools Philly is home to today. A number of hymn composers and choirs were also based in the city during the 17th and 18th centuries.

This was a very influential city in the development of Jazz, Rock and Roll, Hip-Hop and Soul. Not to mention the special ‘Philly sound’ of the 70’s and 80’s. Philadelphia is the birthplace of Chubby Checker, Patti LaBelle, Swan Records, and Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, all of which are now considered icons.

Audio Schools, Philadelphia Origins

Not only was the city once well known for its contributions to music stylings and artists, there have been many audio engineering schools Philly has produced over the centuries.

The Catholic Church was one of the first institutions to offer musical instruction in the 19th century with the establishment of a singing school and boys’ choir. A short time later, the College of Philadelphia and the Academy of Music were formed.

In the 20th century, the Curtis Institute of Music was established and to this day produces many of the nation’s top symphony orchestra musicians.

Audio Engineering Schools, Philadelphia

Today, there are more modern methods of producing and recording music. While Philadelphia has largely lost many of its musical pioneers and recording studios, there are a number of audio schools Philadelphia is still home to.

This is quite fortunate for residents of Philadelphia. Most of the audio engineering schools provide an excellent, well-rounded education for anyone wishing to break into the music industry.

For those students interested in learning the ins and outs of audio recording but who do not live in the greater Philly area, there are still options, however. For rural residents, recording school online classes can offer the ideal alternative to driving into the city. Lil’ Drummaboy Recordings, a Philadelphia-based recording studio, offers an excellent online audio recording course.

With its rich history and great contributions to the music industry, it is no wonder that there are so many excellent audio schools Philadelphia has to offer. For anyone who loves their hometown of Philly and doesn’t wish to relocate to the east or west coast, this is a great option to receive quality training and get started in the music and audio recording industry.
